Artist Bio: Richard Byron
Although known locally for over thirty years for his very fine and sensitive portraits - one of which is a portrait of his long time instructor and friend Carlisle Cooper, owned by Ventura College - Richard Byron is at once as connected with his art as much as he is connected with the sea.
Having sailed at the Elite level for over a decade and alternating between the number one and two positions for the U.S. Olympic sailing team, Richard is equally at home sailing at sunset 40 miles off of the Baja California Coast as he is in front of his easel.
A thoughtful artist who very deliberately plans his compositions and color treatments, Richard considers his paintings of seascapes and of his boat upon the water to be portraits of a place or a moment that perhaps only another sailor might understand, as much as a painting of a person is a portrait in which an artist has captured their thoughts and soul.
